Alumni Symposium: Reunion After One or Two Decades for Remembrance of Youth
On the occasion of Tsinghua's 113th anniversary, the Department of Sociology at Tsinghua University held a symposium for alumni graduating from or enrolled into the Department 10 or 20 years ago under the theme of "Reunion After One or Two Decades for Remembrance of Youth" at Conference Room 211 of Xiong Zhixing Building on the afternoon of April 27, 2024. The symposium invited alumni enrolled into or graduating from the Department in 2004 and 2014 back to Xiong Zhixing Building to share their memories of the past and recent developments, and reminisce about the time they spent at Tsinghua. Teachers Shen Yuan and Jin Jun and more than 20 alumni attended the symposium.
Many of the alumni remain committed to academic research after graduation, growing from students into teachers or the backbone of research institutes and educational institutions. The alumni are engaging in research on cities and communities, family and gender, labor and science and technology, emotion studies, area studies, etc., and most of them are working in colleges and universities or research institutes in North, East and South China.
Many alumni have stepped into non-academic positions with a sociological perspective, shining in various sectors. Even in non-academic careers, they have still been exposed to lasting and far-reaching implications of the theoretical perspective and way of thinking of sociology.
During and at the end of the symposium, Prof. Jin also shared with the alumni the latest changes in the design of some courses and master's and doctoral programs, and sincerely invited them to keep an eye on the ongoing social survey projects. The nearly-two-hour symposium was concluded in the midst of cheerful laughter. The participants took a group photo, holding bouquets of flowers prepared by the Department of Sociology for the alumni.
