The Book Launch for Programmers in China Successfully Held
On April 27, on the occasion of the 113th anniversary of Tsinghua University, the Department of Sociology, together with the Social Sciences Academic Press (China), organized the "Second Tsinghua China Social Survey Symposium and Book Launch for Programmers in China" in the multi-function hall of Xiong Zhixing Building.

Present were Prof. Shen Yuan from the Department of Sociology at Tsinghua University, Zhang Yi, Director of the National Institute of Social Development at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and President of the Chinese Sociological Association (CSA), Xie Shouguang, former President of the Social Sciences Academic Press (China), Zhou Feizhou, Dean of the Department of Sociology at Peking University, Tong Genxing, Secretary-General of CSA, Prof. Wang Tianfu, Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Tsinghua University, and faculty members Sun Feng, Jin Jun, He Xiaobin, Sun Xiulin, Liu Junqiang and Li Xiaoyu at the Department of Sociology of Tsinghua University, as well as the alumni of Tsinghua's Department of Sociology.

The book launch was chaired by Tong Genxing, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Social Sciences Academic Press (China) and Secretary-General of CSA. Zhang Yi, Director of the National Institute of Social Development, CASS, and President of CSA, delivered a speech. In his speech, Zhang extended his congratulations to Tsinghua University on its 113th anniversary, emphasized the social survey tradition and academic contributions of the Department of Sociology at Tsinghua University, and expressed his congratulations on the launch of the book Programmers in China.

This was followed by an introduction to the book by Prof. Wang Tianfu, Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Tsinghua University and the author of the book. Prof. Wang Tianfu underlined the need to further explore the course of social changes in China, which have been recorded by the advent of a digital society and the emergence of new occupational groups.

Finally, the participants had a heated discussion on topics such as the content of the new book, social survey methodology, and development of disciplines. Prof. Shen Yuan from the Department of Sociology at Tsinghua University affirmed the generalization of the characteristics of programmers in the new book, and expressed his expectation for the subsequent research results. Xie Shouguang, former President of the Social Sciences Academic Press (China), reviewed the survey results achieved by the Department of Sociology at Tsinghua University in recent years, and affirmed the importance of studies of emerging occupational groups in the digital age. Zhou Feizhou, Dean of the Department of Sociology at Peking University, spoke of the difference between China and the West in terms of social survey, and emphasized the significance and connotation of social survey to sociology and sociologists. After the symposium, the participants and the alumni had a heated discussion on the new book and took a group photo.
